Arendell Parrott Academy opened the 2014 soccer season with a 4-1 win over host Greenfield School in Wilson Thursday night, in the first leg of the three-game Greenfield School Tournament. The Patriots' Zacchaeus Rasberry scored two goals (one in the first minute of play) while teammates Holt Kendall and Mclean Piner each tallied a goal. Sophomore Drew Vithalani, playing in his first varsity match, assisted on both of Rasberry's goals while Kendall, who scored from the penalty spot, had an assist. The Patriots held a 1-0 halftime before GFS tied the scored on a scramble from a corner kick, but Rasberry netted the game-winner two minutes later off Vithalani's feed through the penalty area. Senior Ward Sylvester and juniors Jason Farsaie and Alex Henderson controlled much of the play in the midfield for the Patriots, while center backs Connor Griggs and Tristan Rudolph solidified the APA defense. Patriot goalie Michael Mikhail, making his first start as a member of the varsity, made four saves, to record the win. APA (1-0) outshot the Knights 12 - 5. The Patriots play Kerr-Vance Academy Friday at 5:00 pm and Grace CS (Sanford) Saturday at 4:00 pm.
