ROCKY MOUNT, NC - The Arendell Parrott Academy Patriots opened up the season on a good note as they took care of the Rocky Mount Academy Eagles, 56-35, in a rematch of last year’s NCISAA state championship game.
Parrott rolled out to a 14-0 lead after the first quarter on a 25-yard run by running back Davis Basden and a quarterback Connor Bright one-yard run.
After a Basden fumble in the second quarter, Rocky Mount Academy went on a 13-play, 99-yard drive capped off by a 17-yard touchdown pass from Kyle Holland to Christopher Rabil to cut the Patriots lead to 14-7.
Taking a 28-21 lead into the fourth quarter, Parrott seized control of the game as Bright hit Basden for a pair of touchdown passes and running back Josh Lopez scored on a 36-yard run.
Basden was solid all night for Parrott as he carried the ball 23 times for 257 yards to go along with 7 receptions for 111 yards and five touchdowns (3 rush; 2 pass). Bright threw for 149 yards and two touchdowns and also ran for two scores. The Patriot defense held the Eagles to only 121 yards of rushing.
Parrott will return home next Friday night to take on Northeast Academy.
